Tantalum ore

Tantalum is dark, dense, ductile, very hard, easily fabricated, and highly conductive of heat and electricity. The metal is renowned for its resistance to corrosion to acids due to the formation of an oxide film. Tantalum is one of the five refractory metals (metals with very high resistance to heat and wear). The metal has a melting point of 30200c (boiling point 55600c) that is exceeded only by tungsten and rhenium.

Tantalite and columbite are usually found disseminated in granitic rocks, particularly in a pegmatite in association with albite microcline, quartz, spodumene, beryl, lepidolite, tourmaline, muscovite, cassiterite, and other minerals.
